In a self-custody model, control depends on who holds the keys. Check your actual software documentation and never hand a recovery phrase to support staff.
Balance queries and broadcasting transactions generally require connectivity. Offline backups do not, but physical damage remains a consideration.
Record it offline in a trusted setting and store it securely. Avoid photos, cloud drives, shared notes, and messaging apps.
A private key authorizes actions for an address; a recovery phrase commonly derives multiple keys. Treat both as highly sensitive.
Confirm your backup first, then use a trusted application. Never enter a phrase in an unknown website or unsolicited support chat.
Verify the blockchain, token contract, and currently selected network. A shared symbol does not imply cross-network compatibility.
Verify the full recipient address, network, token, amount, and fee. A broadcast on-chain transaction is often irreversible.
Confirm the publishing source and domain, avoid unverified packages, and question unusual permissions or requests for secret phrases.
Look for lookalike domains, urgent account-freeze claims, unexpected signature prompts, and unsolicited support contacts. Stop if unsure.
